Athgarvan GAA

Athgarvan is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Athgarvan, County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, which played a significant role in the development of the GAA in the 1890s.
==Gaelic Football==
Athgarvan competed in the first junior C final in 1975, winning the competition in 1977.
Local man Joe Farrell (Kinneagh) who was a member of the 1956 team was instrumental in the reforming of the club in 1971 and dedicated himself to the club. Joe must hold the record for service as a County Board Delegate, a position he has filled for over 40 years for the Club. To quote a piece which was written for the Credit Union Newsletter back in 1996: "It has been said by those in the know that Joe has clocked up more mileage on his shoes working for his beloved Athgarvan than most people in their cars". Joe's dedication paid off and Athgarvan went from strength to strength.
Athgarvan's other pride and honour was the 2014 u14 team which made it to a county final.
Athgarvan started the season not looking to optimistic after struggling to earn victorys in their previous season. But then Gavin (Gav) came along to act as temporary manager due to retirement of previous coaches most notably Bomer Moran. Gavin set the teams spirits high and pushed them on to victory and was appointed head "bainisteoir" with loyal Eoin O'Neil aiding him along the way.Athgarvan played quite well for Athgarvan standards but something was missing from the Athgarvan line-up as this was what cost them their two defeats in the league.
Thibault Dumard was deemed what was missing from the already strong team. A club record signing joined the ranks and was in time to play in Athgarvan's semi-final. A tight affair it was but Thibault Dumard shone on his first home debut. With Athgarvan trailing by two goals with minutes to spare Dumard and an inform Ryan Leahy teamed up brilliantly to create gaps for Dumard to slot in a goal followed by a superb point from range.The referee called last play and Thibault seized the ball and scored the goal to guarantee Athgarvan's place in the division 5 final. By no means was it an easy path as Athgarvan were forced to remember the one of two defeats they had that season. What were the chances they would have to play the team they got blown away by? Alas Robertstown were to be the opponent's on the night of Friday the 27th of June at hawkfield . Athgarvan were left to regret the chances they missed as they lost by the tightest of margins. It was Athgarvan's u14 greatest ever achievement but they vow to give Gav his division 5 title
